چکیده

407 Glutamatergic Transmission in the SubCD—Simon et al the SubCD.8,9 The SubCD contains glutamatergic, and perhaps GABAergic, neurons.10 Efferents of the SubCD project to a number of areas, including the medulla (involved in generating muscle atonia), the thalamus (involved in the generation of cortical oscillations and PGO waves), and the hippocampus (involved in learning and memory).3 Considering the importance of the SubCD in generating REM sleep,3,4,6,11,12 perhaps developmental changes in excitation of the SubCD could underlie the developmental decrease in REM sleep in that occurs humans from birth until the end of puberty and in the rat from postnatal days 10 to 30.13,14 Cholinergic neurotransmission has been thoroughly tested in the SubCD in vitro.15,16 However, while glutamatergic neurotransmission has been found to be important for the generation of REM sleep,4,10 the role of glutamatergic neurotransmission in the SubCD has yet to be tested in vitro. We tested the hypothesis that glutamatergic neurotransmission is important in the excitation of SubCD neurons, and developmental changes in glutamatergic neurotransmission in this nucleus may underlie the developmental decrease in REM sleep in the rat.

Key Brainstem Structures Activated during Hypoxic Exposure in One-day-old Mice Highlight Characteristics for Modeling Breathing Network in Premature Infants

We mapped and characterized changes in the activity of brainstem cell groups under hypoxia in one-day-old newborn mice, an animal model in which the central nervous system at birth is particularly immature. The classical biphasic respiratory response characterized by transient hyperventilation, followed by severe ventilation decline, was associated with increased c-FOS immunoreactivity in brain...

Detection of Glycoconjugate Changes in the Embryonic Trigeminal Nucleus in Balb/C Mouse by Lectin Histochemistry

Purpose: Determination of changes of glycoconjugates, which have special terminal sugars, in embryonic developmental processes of brain stem and trigeminal nucleus in Balb/C mouse. Materials and Methods: In this study mice embryos between 10-17 embryonic days were used. They were fixed according to ordinary laboratory procedures. The specimens were embedded in paraffin and serial sections with...

Kölliker-Fuse nucleus: the principal source of pontine catecholaminergic cells projecting to the lumbar spinal cord of cat.

Using retrograde transport of the fluorescent dye Evans Blue (EB), in combination with glyoxylic acid histofluorescence, the ponto-spinal catecholaminergic pathways were investigated. The cells which contain catecholamine and project to the lumbar spinal cord of the cat are most densely concentrated in the Kölliker-Fuse nucleus. Locus coeruleus, the subcoeruleus area, and the parabrachial nucle...

The effect of desmopressin infusion into dorsal raphe nucleus on pain modulation and morphine analgesia in rats tail flick reflex

Recent neuroanatomical and behavioral evidence has indicated that vasopressin (VA) increases pain threshold. The dorsal raphe nucleus (DRN) is an important nucleus in pain modulation. Anatomical studies have shown that DRN receives vasopressinergic fibers originating in the hypothalamic paraventricular nucleus. The aim of the present study was to examine the effects of intra-DRN injection of de...
